Live Big, Love Big is a way of life - a commitment that you can achieve more than you ever expected or what you thought was ever possible by staying focused on POSITIVITY.
Live Big, Love Big is a brain cancer advocacy organization with a mission to make brain cancer a priority. The organization provides marketing and business leadership to brain cancer foundations, hospitals and advocacy organizations with a focus on collaborations, storytelling and public relations.
We focus on uniting vision and voices that will accelerate and amplify the urgency to:
Our approach is different. We are advocates of change, not our own non-profit foundation. We forge new partnerships, breakdown silos, ignite conversations, motivate policymakers and foster new collaborations to make impactful, lasting change for brain cancer.
By working together, we have a better chance to reverse the under-publicized, under-researched and under-funded status that has roadblocked brain cancer progress, especially for glioblastoma (GBM), for decades.
Until this happens, we will Think. Talk. Take Action. For Brain Cancer.
Brain and other nervous system cancer is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. With brain/nervous system cancer representing 1.3% of all new cancer cases each year, the amount of attention, research and funding to advance treatments is nowhere close to where it should be. Being in a smaller pool does not make us less important.
Think about this: GBM represents 48% of all primary malignant brain tumors. The 5-year relative survival rate is 6.9% and the median survival is only 8 months. Despite first being identified in scientific literature in the 1920s, there are only 4 FDA-approved drugs and one device to treat GBM today. There haven't been any new treatments and survival rate has not improved in more than 30 years.
It's hard to swallow these facts. While we forge ahead to drive change, we will continue to inspire positivity for a future of hope by conquering and curing this devastating disease.
As an advocate with the National Brain Tumor Society (NTBS), we were in Washington on May 6-7, 2024, to meet with Congress.
We shared our personal story of love and loss due to brain cancer, and aggressively advocate for the federal government to make big strategic investments in brain cancer research. Of priority importance to us was the recommendation to expand the NCI Glioblastoma Therapeutics Network to provide a minimum annual budget of $50 million. With appropriate funding, this program can develop into a durable, fully scaled scientific engine for vetting promising treatments and launching well-designed early-phase clinical trials.
We will know more in the Fall if this was approved.
“I plan to leverage my 30 years of marketing and business experience where I took companies from zero-to-millions, and now apply that to brain cancer. Jim lived a life based on positivity. I will channel that mindset & his motto to live big, love big as we move forward to drive change." -Tracy McAllister, Founder
